Prof Dr Sofija Davidović Terzić, MD, PhD

Associate Professor at the Department of Ophthalmology, Faculty of Medicine, University of Novi Sad.

Education

Faculty of Medicine, University of Novi Sad, 1994 to 2001, Doctor of Medicine, average grade 9.76.

Master's studies in physiology, 2001 to 2006, Faculty of Medicine, University of Novi Sad. Master's thesis: Keratometric and pachymetric parameters of the cornea in older age.

Doctoral studies in clinical medicine, 2006 to 2011, Faculty of Medicine, University of Novi Sad. Doctoral dissertation: The role of angiogenic growth factors in diabetic retinopathy.

Specialist training in ophthalmology, 2002 to 2007, completed with the highest grade.

Passed all three levels of the International Council of Ophthalmology examinations.

Professional experience

Since 2002, she has worked at the Eye Diseases Clinic of the University Clinical Centre of Vojvodina, in the Department of Ophthalmology and Ophthalmic Surgery. Her specialist field is the conservative and surgical treatment of conditions and diseases affecting the posterior segment of the eye.

Since 2019, she has served as Head of the Posterior Segment Section.

She has worked at the Department of Ophthalmology of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Novi Sad, since 2004. Since 2020, she has held the position of Associate Professor at the Department of Ophthalmology.

Professional interests

Her professional interests include the diagnosis of retinal diseases using ultrasound, fluorescein angiography, OCT and OCT angiography, retinal laser treatment, pars plana vitrectomy, retinal detachment surgery, anti-VEGF therapy, cataract surgery and the treatment of eye injuries.

International professional training

She has undertaken fellowship programmes and professional placements at leading ophthalmology centres in Austria, including Vienna, France, including Paris, Germany, including Berlin, Oman, including Muscat, and Slovenia, including Ljubljana. She has also completed international training in vitreoretinal surgery, cataract surgery, anti-VEGF therapy and ophthalmic ultrasound diagnostics.

Scientific and research work

She is the author and co-author of numerous scientific papers published in Serbian and international ophthalmology journals, with a particular focus on diabetic retinopathy, vitreoretinal surgery and complicated cataract surgery. She participates actively in national and international congresses and mentors student research papers and graduation theses at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Novi Sad. Her papers have appeared in journals including Ophthalmology, European Journal of Ophthalmology, BMC Ophthalmology, Medicina and Medicinski pregled, as well as other internationally indexed publications.
