Corneal topography

Corneal topography is a basic procedure in the preoperative preparation and assessment of candidates for laser vision correction, as well as in postoperative monitoring of treatment results. It is also important in diagnosing corneal conditions, such as keratoconus, and in monitoring the effects of their treatment.

Corneal topography involves imaging the cornea with specialised devices such as Orbscan, Oculyzer or Pentacam. This examination provides highly precise parameters describing the structure of the cornea, including its curvature, thickness at each point, and the elevation of its front and back surfaces. The results are presented as maps containing numerical data for these parameters.
